Farm Tour

We went on our first field trip yesterday to three different farms.

The first stop was Mr. Miller's Dairy Farm where the students got to see how cows were milked and even try it out on their own! They also got to pet and feed calves. There was one calf that was only 5 days old! They liked him because he had a heart on his forehead. :) They also got a special treat at the end- string cheese!

The second stop was the Hog Farm where students were able to see hogs, learn about combines and corn and their special treat there was a mini hot dog.

The last stop was the Potato Farm. Students learned about which potatoes grow on this farm as well as what happens to the potatoes after they get picked. They learned that Mrs. Gerry's in Albert Lea gets their potatoes from this farm! Their special treat was to take home a big sack of potatoes. Have any of you used yours yet? :) It was such a great day to be on the farm!

Walk-a-thon

On Friday, the students participated in the Hawthorne walk-a-thon around the lake. They worked so hard at raising money and getting pledges that the school reached over $13,000, which means the teachers had to wear tutus and Mrs. Vitito got slimed! The weather cooperated with us for the most part so it wasn't so hot! Overall, it was a GREAT day!

First stop: Gazebo for a picture opportunity!

Hanging around Lakeview park.

Lunch with friends!

Layla had the most pledges in our class!

Kate earned the most money in our class to pie Mr.Groth!
